Training and development refers to educational activities or a systematic setup created to enhance the skills and knowledge of the employees within a company by providing information and instructions on matters of technical knowledge related to their jobs and how to perform the specific tasks in a better way. It focuses on teaching employees how to use particular machines or how to perform to increase productivity and efficiency. Development is a process in relation to insights, adaptability, leadership and human relations and it refers to the educational growth and maturity of people in managerial positions.

Difference between training and development

Training is a short-term process meant for operatives while development is a continuous pro-active designed process meant for executives.

An employees' aim is to develop additional skills, when it comes to training, and in development, it is to develop a complete personality.

In training process, the initiative is usually taken by the management and the objective is to meet the present need of an employee. In developmental process, initiative is taken by an individual with an objective to meet the future needs of an employee.

Training has been used in almost all organizations. There are a lot of benefits to integrating training and development into organizations even though it requires investments of many types. It can cause more harm than good if the training and development is not strategic and pointed at specific goals.
